How to Draw A Knife
Step 1
In the first step of this guide to drawing a knife, we’ll start with the most important part of the knife: the blade!
To draw the blade, we will use a line that curves on itself to form the shape you see in the reference image.
Also, there will be a sharp point at the end, and on the other side, there will be a vacant spot where we will draw the handle later.
Step 2
In this second part of your knife drawing, we’ll add some detail to the side of the blade. First, start by filling the gap you left on the right.
You can do this by making a curved line at the bottom of the blade leading to a straight line where the blade will later connect to the handle.
Look closely at the reference image to see how it should look!
Next, add a slightly curved line along the side of the blade, and then add another line drawing on the part that connects to the handle. Then you can start drawing the handle!
Step 3
It would not be easy to use a knife without a handle, so we will start drawing a knife in this step of our How to Draw a Knife guide.
The knife will look like bonded leather, and we will represent this look using many jagged lines that connect.
We’ll start by drawing a handle for the knife with a slightly longer shape before the handle starts. Then you can start drawing the thin, irregular lines we mentioned earlier.
You can move on to the next step once you’ve seen it, as in our reference image!
Step 4
Now that you’ve started drawing the handle of your knife, in this part of the guide, we can draw the next section of it.
To do this, use the same irregular lines you used for the beginning of the handle down to the middle of the handle.
With this section of the handle complete, the next step is to add the final elements and details, so let’s move on!
Step 5
We’ll finish the drawing in this step of our How to Draw a Knife guide, and then you’re ready for some awesome coloring in the final step!
First, we finish the knife blade. You can do this by continuing the jagged lines you used for the leather-covered handle and ending up with a flat edge for the handle. With the full grip, you can start!
Before you do that, you can also add some of your details to add your touch to this design.
You could engrave the knife blade as an idea. Or it’s on a map with a compass to show that this knife belongs to an explorer!
Step 6
You’ve worked hard on this knife drawing, and now you can relax with some coloring fun to finish it off properly!
In our reference image, we chose shades of gray for the blade and shades of brown for the handle.
These can give you inspiration for your picture, but feel free to use as many colors as you like!
You can also experiment with different artistic mediums depending on your desired color for this image.
Maybe you want a bright image with some acrylic paint and colored pencils, or you could keep it more muted with watercolor and colored pencils.
