Supply url For the second time this week, SmartBrief will not be publishing its usual daily content to observe the Presidents’ Day holiday.
On Feb. 16, SmartBrief announced it will not be publishing an issue on Monday, Feb. 15, in honor of Presidents’ Day. SmartBrief President Steve Bushall said the decision was made in an effort to give employees the day off to spend time with family or volunteering on the holiday.
Bushall said SmartBrief will resume publication on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The missed day of publication is the second holiday hiatus the publication has taken during the long weekend, which began on Feb. 17.
The publisher’s board of directors voted unanimously in favor of the change in recognition of the federal holiday. The same was true of the decision to not publish on Monday, Feb. 15.
Bushall said SmartBrief plans to continue honoring federal holidays in the future, adding that the absence of editorial, advertising and other content was a small price to pay for employees to enjoy a much-needed day off.
The missed publication dates are part of SmartBrief’s broader initiative to prioritize a better work-life balance for its employees. In recent months, it has made changes to offer more flexible vacation and hours policies.
SmartBrief’s commitment to its employees is echoed in the company’s mission statement, which declares: “Our greatest asset is our people, who create and carry forth our mission and values through groundbreaking journalism, evidence-based best practices, and thought leadership.”
