The research paper on Gender-Responsive Disaggregated Data was presented at the 4th Indian Women Economists Conference (IWEC).
The 4th IWEC focused on delivering sustainable economic growth and long-term competitive advantages for India. During her address, Minister Irani highlighted how data gaps represent critical challenges to developing comprehensive interventions for different socio-economic classes as well as gender equity.
She also spoke about how contemporary markets and digital technologies are drastically transforming the way in which information and knowledge is being accessed, shared and used by individuals, organisations and governments and how this revolution is shining a light on societal challenges including gender inequality, poverty, and health.
The Minister said that the collection of disaggregated data is essential to understand the dynamics of gender binarism and critical to narrow gender gaps. She also emphasised that the commitment of her ministry towards digital talent has helped in making a paradigm shift in data literacy.
The IWEC discussed issues such as the gender wage gap, financial inclusion for women, gender-based violence, and micro-finance for empowerment. The event has been widely praised by the academia and young researchers alike. It has provided a platform for policy-makers from the Centre and states to interact with young researchers and scholars who are exploring the complexities of gender studies through their research.
The Indian Women Economists Conference is a brainchild of the Planning Commission and has been held in three other locations such as Delhi, Shillong, and Mumbai.
