Your Cognitive Bliss Is Facilitated With Modalert

Modalert Tablet is an FDA-approved medication for narcolepsy, as well as other sleep-related conditions. It is also often used “off-label” to enhance cognitive function, improve focus, and boost productivity.

Modalert works by inhibiting dopamine uptake in astrocytes, which increases glutamate release. This results in the release of other chemicals that promote wakefulness and improve mental functions.

Narcolepsy

People with narcolepsy have fewer brain cells that make hypocretin (also known as orexin), a chemical made in the hypothalamus that helps you stay awake. This may be due to an autoimmune reaction, in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue.

People with narcolepsy also have problems falling asleep and staying asleep at night. It takes 12 years on average before a person gets diagnosed with narcolepsy. The condition is more common in men than women and affects more people from certain racial and ethnic groups.

The main symptom of narcolepsy is excessive daytime sleepiness, which makes you feel tired even after a good night’s rest. You may fall asleep during the day, often at random or when you are distracted.

You can wake up and feel refreshed, but the sleepiness often returns later in the day. Other symptoms include memory lapses and episodes of slurred speech or weakness of the muscles called cataplexy, which are usually triggered by strong emotions like anger or fear.

People with narcolepsy have trouble sleeping through the night and may experience vivid dreams and hallucinations. They also often have sleep paralysis, a temporary inability to move or speak while falling asleep or awakening. A small study found that meditation-relaxation therapy can reduce how often narcolepsy patients experience sleep paralysis.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea is a disorder that causes breathing to pause repeatedly during sleep because of narrowed or blocked airways. Daytime drowsiness is an unpleasant but common symptom of this disorder, and it can be dangerous to your health if you fall asleep while driving or performing other tasks that require your full attention.

To diagnose obstructive sleep apnea, doctors collect a patient’s medical history and symptoms, perform a physical exam, and may refer the patient to an otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat) or pulmonary (lung) specialist for a diagnostic sleep study. Patients who snore or choke frequently and have trouble breathing, a history of frequent infections, obesity, neck and waist size, or other risk factors should be evaluated for the condition.

Modalert ( Modawake 200 ) has also been approved to treat shift work sleep disorder, a condition that occurs when people who work non-traditional hours have difficulty staying awake during night shifts. This condition can lead to poor performance and reduced productivity, but Modalert is effective in promoting wakefulness and cognitive function during night shifts.

It has also been used off-label by healthy individuals who want to improve focus and increase wakefulness for various reasons, such as completing school or work projects. This off-label use is referred to as “cognitive enhancement.” Find out more about this off-label use in the next section of our guide.

Shift Work Sleep Disorder

Shift work sleep disorder (SWSD) impacts people who regularly work shifts outside the normal nine-to-five schedule. This includes night workers, those who work rotating shifts, and employees of 24-hour businesses such as hospitals and police departments. Working night shifts goes against the body’s circadian rhythm, disrupting natural sleep patterns and causing an imbalance in sleep-promoting hormones like melatonin.

When you don’t receive enough high-quality sleep, your mental and physical performance suffers, which can lead to a variety of problems. These include irritability, memory loss, fatigue, depression, and even weight gain. Chronic drowsiness can also interfere with your ability to perform your job safely, leading to mistakes that could lead to injury or death on the job.

While it’s not possible to prevent shift work sleep disorder if you have an irregular schedule, there are ways to improve the quality of your sleep. Behavioral changes, such as improving your sleep hygiene and using blackout curtains to prevent the effects of sunlight, can help.

If you’re having trouble sleeping or feel tired despite getting seven to eight hours of sleep, you should consult a doctor about your symptoms. A physician can determine if SWSD is the cause of your problems and recommend a treatment plan to address it. Many people who have SWSD find that their symptoms subside if they change to a more traditional schedule.
